My Manic Mind edition by JM Price Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

This is a courageous work by an author who has something useful to share. This is an educational insight into a seemingly much misunderstood subject. Before I read this piece I had no direct knowledge of bipolar and now the struggles and trials of this affliction are brought to life. The author's own struggle to gain control through self awareness, lifestyle and a heck of an effort is splendidly communicated. There are no soft edges to the hard truths. I am reminded of William Earnest Henry's "Invictus" and the closing sentiment "I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." The author's diatribe against the pharmaceutical industry and the medical profession was too harsh but understandable. Read this book and take time to learn about significant challenge.

Control your manic thoughts. The author seems to express his thoughts on the subject of quitting medication quite clearly. I totally don't agree but each to his own..
I actually read this book twice just because I couldn't believe how it glossed over the real bipolar illness. I thought I had skimmed some relevant parts that might offset the dangerous advice of going cold turkey on one's meds then giving trivial advice as to coping. It was a minor accomplishment to read it two times without throwing my kindle against the wall.

Sure a bipolar gets "creative" but anyone who is a rapid cycler knows that leads to deep dangerous depressive dark moods and numerous suicide attempts over a lifetime. When one is in a true manic it is impossible to just look at manic thoughts and control them by analysis. He might as well said eat a peanut butter sandwich. The whole basis of manic is uncontrolled thoughts. The examples are simplistic (play with children while manic-safe!) and not at all in touch with the real world of the unreal bipolar state. Being out of control manic cannot be cured by punching a bag for twenty minutes. It sounds to me like the most the author has experienced is hypomania and one depressive episode where suicide was "contemplated". My mouth dropped open at the thought bad depression could and should be handled by smoking a small amount of marijuana or hash. Just not acceptable when suicide looms as a real alternative and the razor is about to slice. Medication dosage changes, sure, but so does the illness. Adjustments have to be made. He lumps together the extreme side effects of meds and purports to say his opinion is true for all meds across the board. He refers to studies but, like everything he glosses over, doesn't itemize any. This book is clearly one man's opinion about a disorder when he has never flown to Hong Kong on a whim or locked himself in a garage with a car filtering in carbon dioxide gas. My sister went off her medications without medical controls and walked straight into a speeding train, leaving behind two small children. I went off my meds without medical advice and that allowed me to stock up on the unused meds for a drug overdose and only medical intervention saved me from the death I sought. I thought exercise helped and walked ten miles a day but the deep dark depression/nothingness won over. A lot of bipolar people go off their meds at one time or another. But, over forty years, I have never heard of one long term success story of voluntarily stopping medication. I have been in hospitals, drop in centers, group therapy, speaking engagements, acting as a counselor and among acquaintances. Eventually the uncontrolled mind takes over. That's the real rapid cycling bipolar reality. I am glad I only got this book on loan from prime and didn't pay for it. The are a lot more detailed informative books and blogs out there.
This book, My Manic Mind, gives you the detailed inside scoop on what it's like to have bipolar syndrome.
All too often, you don't know if you're bipolar and this book gives you an accurate representation on what it's like before and after diagnosis.

After reading this book you will have a better understanding and respect for people with bipolar syndrome.

Grab the book and read it!
An enlightening inside experience for those without first hand knowledge of mental illness and a helpful, insightful read for those who either have bipolar or are close friends/family of one who has. My heartfelt thanks to the author.
That being said, this is the closest book I've ever read that even comes close to describing what goes on in my head. We are not any more dangerous than your average Joe, but we are a bit wackier. We have quite a few more fears than most people.

I am currently going off of all of my cocktail (antidepressant, lithium, and sleep aid...just what the doc ordered) and needed to see that it would turn out okay. I also have a twenty-something daughter just being introduced to the bipolar pharmaceutical smorgasbord and have told her that she has to read this book.

And, like the author, I love my highly productive manic phases. I am also rapid cycling but mostly manic, although when I crash, I crash hard.

If you want a glimpse into what it's like to be bipolar today, this is THE book to read.

Highly recommended and hoping for the next one.
This is the first time I've ever written a book review and I have, simply because I thought it was a fascinating read and a brilliant insight into the life of someone suffering from Bipolar disorder.

My preconceived ideas of the condition were way off track, and I learned a lot. I am not being patronising when I say I have admiration for the author for coming up with strategies to deal with the various stages of the disorder, and the reasoning behind his decisions.

Contrary to the opinion of another reviewer, I don't believe he was out of order with the comments about the medical profession, and with the detailed explanation of his experience, thought he was quite generous. In fact it would be a good book for medical professionals to read, to get a better understanding to be able to help sufferers, rather than just prescribe whatever the latest chemical regime sold them by the drug companies.

If his use is as described, it's probably also the first time I've been able to accept the use of weed as a legitimate treatment other than for terminally ill patients.

The book would have to be a brilliant read for any newly diagnosed sufferer as well as for anyone with contact at all with sufferers ... particularly family members or workmates.
